Tornado tears up Thursday Hackers …………… (what CTV was afraid to publish)
Once again Mother Nature ruled the day with a newsworthy deluge of rain, wind and even hail. Fortunately, most of the Hackers were well protected under the canopy…….well, at least for a little while, until the seas turned bitter and we all got chased into the clubhouse.
Our hacker friend from Ottawa did not stir as he had been raised in Lanark County where all brave hackers hail. The man in red, however, had trouble negotiating the main deck as he taunted the rising Oro seas.
Our leader Mac guarantees fairer winds next week and encourages you to sign up as soon as possible for he promises something special on Thursday the 22nd. Click here to get your name on the register.

A great day was had by all at our Canada Day Tournament. Thanks to Jerry for capturing a few pics during game play and at the 19th Hole

Hack from Mac for Canada Day July 1st
………………. A Popular New Format……………..
It seemed unanimous that the Round Robin Format went over well with The Boys! Playing against 3 other twosomes over 18 holes led to some good competition and many “Sorry Partner(s)” thanks to the Alternate Shot format! One of the benefits with alternating shots is, that the pace was quick, with very few waiting periods between holes. Alternatively, each player is getting fewer shots per hole and that means less bang for your buck. I would like to try the round robin play once more before season’s end, with a different game format.
The scores and winners are recorded on last Thursday’s Chart. Jerry won the hole prize for hole #10 with the longest putt made at 10 feet. The Longest Drive Prize on #14 was made by Nick when he outdrove the 2nd place entrant by a whopping 30 yards!! Grayley, Shanny and I were there to witness the feat!
To determine the Red Team overall winners, we had to revert to the tie breaking formula provided on the chart (with the game format). Jerry and Gillie were tied with Warren and JP at 8 points apiece.
Upon further review, the 1st tie breaker, as stated on the chart on site…. was “Head to Head”….unlike the Retrogression Rules for Regular Play. I double checked both cards and for holes 7 – 12, Warren and JP scored 3 points to Jerry and Gillie’s 2 points. Warren’s group won holes 8,10 and 11. Jerry’s group won 7 and 12. Unfortunately and accidentally, the prize monies are in the hands of Jerry and Gillie. After further consultation with Pete, Our Toonie Man, we have decided that it’s only in everyone’s best interest, if we ask Jerry and Gillie to return their winnings to Warren and JP, as they had actually won according to the format rules. No pennies please! Jerry and Warren are neighbours, so hopefully, the transaction can take place before Jerry heads to New Brunswick for 2 weeks! Perhaps an E-Transfer from Gillie might suffice….. if JP is o.k. with online banking.
I neglected to mention that the winners of the Blue Team were Grayley and Mac. A combination of short, mostly straight drives and several lengthy, accurate 2nd shots….. mixed in with a variety of hit and miss short game chips…… seemed to work out well on this particular day! Lotsa Fun Grayl!
Barry, the owner of Heritage Hills, pulled up in his golf cart on hole #12, accompanied by a nice looking lady golfer and another couple and congratulated our entire Hackers group for getting in the Canada Day Spirit with our red and white golf attire, as well as several large colorful flags.
We had a great turnout on the patio apres golf as everyone stayed behind and enjoyed some delicious burgers, fries etc. from their varied menu.
Alan surprised everyone by presenting a very unique figurine and some golf balls to Gillie for being selected as having the best Canada Day Costume of our group. Thanks Alan!
A special thanks to Jerry for sending the photos above to Grayley who posted them for our viewing pleasure.
Thank you to Grayley and Peter for working together to post that fitting tribute to “Stan The Man”. Well done gentlemen.
BMac
Kevin was on a roll, as he shot a sizzling score of 80 with the only blemishes being a pair of 6’s on two par 5’s nos. 5 and 12. Two other scores that helped secure 1st place for their team were Pete with an 84 and Nick with an 88. Well done guys!!
Other notable low scores were recorded by Shag with an 84 and Bob Doner with an 85. Even though his tee shots were neither here nor there…Rick managed to still pull off an 87! No too bad Son!
It was certainly great to see Shanny and Frank join the group!
A big thank you to Pete who forwarded all your sentimental emails of sympathy to Stan’s wife Judy. She was very touched by that kind gesture on our behalf! Thank You Kaptain Kirk!
We have 15 Hackers confirmed for June 10. A group of 8 of us will be heading to Muskoka Bay on Tues. and Wed. for an overnight stay and a couple of rounds. We might even play some golf while we are there??
Once we have 20 players confirmed, I will get the 4-somes and game format on the website by Monday evening. Gotta get my stuff packed for the next morning.
Jason of Heritage Hills was very understanding about our group having to cancel this year’s Hackers’ Cup. We will play a watered-down version of the tournament on the previous Thursday Aug. 26. That’s for us to know!
Have A Great Weekend Everyone!

On a tour that’s as saturated with talent as the LPGA is now, it’s hard for one player to stand out and be dominant. However, after her win at the Meijer LPGA Classic, Brooke Henderson looks to be making a bid to do just that. Henderson shot a record-tying 21-under at Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. to win by one over four players — one of whom was the previous week’s champion, Lexi Thompson.
With nine tour wins, Henderson, who grew up in Ontario, became the winningest Canadian tour pro — male or female — in golf. Her win earlier this year at the LOTTE Championship tied her with Sandra Post, Mike Weir and George Knudson with eights. At only 21-years-old, if the past is an indication of the future, Henderson will surely build on that number. This is the fourth season in a row where Henderson has won more than once on the LPGA.

Old stuff for the new season
Welcome Back Fellow Hackers!! Looking forward to the 2K19 Hackers’ Season at Heritage Hills. On Thursdays last year, the Hackers’ fees were $33.90 for 18 or 9 holes with cart and taxes in. ($25 + $5 cart + $3.90 tax). These fees will remain the same for 2K19. The Hackers’ Cup Tournament has been moved ahead to Sat. Aug. 24. Instead of the first Sat. after Labour Day, it will be held on the Sat. before Labour Day. Last year, five or six of our Regular Hackers had travel plans already booked for early Sept. and missed the highlight of our season. Please mark the date Sat. Aug. 24 on your calendars. After the Awards Ceremony in the white tent at Hackers’ Cup, we will rendezvous at St. Louis Bar and Grill (Guys Only) for some refreshments and food and we should all be home by 6:30 ish. “Happy Wife………”
Help us build your web site as the season swings by………… send us any pics you have from Thursday hackers or on Tour events and we will post them up on the site.
It was the consensus of our membership, that it was time to thank Joe Malek of Tiff’s for his 5 free wings per player, his very fine waitresses (who will be sorely missed) and the year end band led by Michelle Guy. The time has come for us to look elsewhere for a New Apres Golf Destination. Shag The Negotiator and myself will be meeting with the manager of St. Louis Bar and Grill at Duckworth and Grove Streets, to arrange some type of sponsorship for the coming season. The food and drink specials are quite good and there are plenty of big screen TV’s for our viewing pleasure. The bar is 7 minutes from Heritage Hills and close to the Hwy. 400 ramps for a quick getaway. Looking forward to this new venue.
Grayley has already paid the annual fee for our Hackersweebee website. The annual fee per Hacker is again $5.00 each. I will be collecting the fee from anyone who has a $5.00 bill this Thursday at Heritage Hills or at St. Louis after golf. I will ask Shag if he would collect the following Thursday April 25…. as Peter, Grayley, Sid and myself will be in Nashville for a week with Tim Grace’s Group for their annual golf and country music appreciation trip!!
Looking forward to another fine season of mediocre golf, a few aches and pains and lotsa laughs at each other’s expense.
UPDATE
Shag and I met with Courtney Gooderham. the manager of St. Louis Bar and Grill at The Duckworth Plaza. Here is the deal for this Hackers’ Season.
She will reserve the section of booths to the right, as you enter the establishment. We will receive free platters of nachos depending on how many Hackers are present. There will be their regular food and drink specials for Thursdays which are quite good!
On Thursdays after golf, each Hacker will receive his food and drink bill separately and pay (of course). Shag will request one total bill to cover how much we spent as a group. He will keep the total bills for each week and submit a final total to Courtney, the week before the Hackers’ Cup. Courtney will credit us with 10% of that total to put towards our Apres Golf Party on Sat. Aug. 24 after the Awards Ceremony in The White Tent.
We asked Courtney if guys went to her bar (only) on other days, could they submit their receipts and she said yes.
Looking forward to a good working relationship with St. Louis Bar and Grill! Go Raptors!
